Web Site Maintenance - Netscape Composer

Home Customer Support Web Site Maintenance Netscape Composer

Netscape Composer

Netscape Composer is a free web page editing program that was introduced as a part of Netscape Communicator. Composer is still available, but development ceased with the Netscape 4 product line. Consequently, we do not recommend it.

Download the most recent version of Netscape Communicator from the Netscape web site.

Web Site Design

We recommend that you have a professional designer prepare and upload your web site to a host computer. Ask your designer to follow these simple guidelines as she prepares your web site.
  • All pages and graphcs must be located in the root directory of your web site. This means no sub folders for images or other content.
  • Use no frames in the construction of the site.

Changing a Page on Your Web Site

Once your web site has been uploaded to our host computer, you are ready to begin web site maintenance. You will need the following pieces of information:
  • Your host name (normally yourDomain.com)
  • Your user name (normally your First and Last name without spaces, eg. JeannieSmith)
  • Your password (normally a string that you pick)

Step by Step Instructions for Import:

  1. Launch Netscape.

  2. Open page for viewing in Navigator
    File -> Open -> Location in Navigator
    Enter the URL for the page you want to edit (Example: http://www.yourDomain.com/thePage.html)

  3. Open page for editing
    File -> Edit
    The page will open in Composer

  4. Edit page
    Use composer's editing capability to change text fields and so forth.

  5. Publish changed page
    File -> Publish
    Enter the location of the page (Example: ftp://yourDomain.com/thePage.html)
    Enter your user ID (Example: FirstLast)
    Enter your password (Example: 14599xyz)
    Composer publishes the page.

  6. Verify the Result in Navigator
    File -> Open -> Location in Navigator
    View -> Reload
