Apple Mail
Mail is the standard program bundled with MacOS X. We recommend Mail for ease of setup, usability, antispam features, and beautiful graphical Email.
Setup your Apple Mail for a POP3 Account if you have one computer accessing your Email box. If you often access your mail with more than one computer, then you should setup your Apple Mail for an IMAP account.
Setup Apple Mail Version 3 for POP
Versions of Mail differ in appearance.
Instructions for
Version 2 follow those for Version 3 immediate below.
Launch Mail Version 3
From the Mail Menu, choose Mail > Preferences > Account Information. Then choose the plus sign at lower left to create a new account.
Add Account
- Full name: Enter your name as you want it to appear in your outgoing mail.
- Email address: Enter your email address at your WebValence hosted domain.
- Password: Enter your standard WebValence password
Incoming Mail Server
- Account Type: POP
- Description: A descriptive name for his account.
- Incoming Mail Server: "mail" plus your domain name.
- User name: Your user name is the same as your Email address.
- Password: Enter your standard WebValence password if not already populated.
On Continue, Mail will immediately attempt to check for the existense of this mail account at the incoming mail server. Normally this check will fail. Click Cancel immediately and Continue again to bypass the checking.
Outgoing Mail Server
- Description: A descriptive name for this mail account, normally the same as above.
- Outgoing mail server: The name is the same as your incoming mail server above.
- Use only this server: Normally checked to use only this server for sending from the account mail address.
- Use authentication: Must be checked.
- User name: Enter your email address, the same one you used for the incoming window above.
- Password: Enter your standard password, the same one you used for the incoming window above.
On continue, Mail will immediately attempt to verify the existense of this server. This check will normally fail. Click Cancel to stop the verification and Continue to proceed.
Account Summary
This is a summary of your setup. Unfortunately, you are not done because Mail has made some assumptions that don't match the WebValence mail server.
Click create to save your settings so far.
SMTP Server Advanced Options
From the Accounts menu, locate the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) at bottom right. Click this drop down widget to reveal "Edit Server List" at the bottom of the drop down. Drag down to the Edit Server List and release the Mouse to open the list of SMTP Servers as pictured below.
- Select the Server for your customer domain, in this example: mail.cscoach.com and notice that the selected server is highlighted.
- Choose the Advanced tab to reveal ports and authentication.
- Use Secure Sockets Layer: Uncheck this box.
- Server port: Select custom port and change the setting to 587
- User Name: Should already be set to your address.
- Password: Should already be set to your WebValence password
- Choose OK to return to the Accounts window.

Incoming Server Advanced Options
From the Accounts window, choose the the Advanced tab.
- Enable this account: Must be checked
- Include when automatically checking for new mail: Normally checked
- Remove copy from server after retrieving a message: Normally checked
- User SSL: Must be unchecked
- Authentication: Must be set to Password
Congratulations! Close this your window and, if prompted, save all settings.

Setup Apple Mail Version 2 for POP
Illustrations below are from Version 2 of Mail.
Launch Mail Version 2
From the Mail > Preferences > Account Information menu, choose the plus sign at lower left to create a new account.
General Information
- Account type: POP is recommended for most users. If you are receiving your mail on more than one computer, choose IMAP.
- Account description: Enter an arbitrary description for this account.
- Full name: Enter your name as you want it to appear in your outgoing mail.
- Email address: Enter your email address at your WebValence hosted domain.

Incoming Mail Server
- Incoming mail server: Enter mail.yourdomain.suffix.
- User name: Your user name is the same as your Email address.
- Password: Enter your standard WebValence password
On continue, Mail will immediately attempt to check for the existense of this mail account at the incoming mail server. You can't proceed without correcting any errors at this step. Recheck all of your settings and contact support@webvalence.com if you are unable to continue without errors.

Incoming Mail Security
No changes needed

Outgoing Mail Server
- Outgoing mail server: The name is the same as your incoming mail server above.
- Use authentication: Ensure that this is checked!
- User name: Enter your email address, the same one you used for the incoming window above.
- Password: Enter your standard password, the same one you used for the incoming window above.
On continue, Mail will immediately attempt to verify the existense of this server. If this check fails, ignore the error message and continue.
Outgoing Mail Security
No changes needed.
Account Summary
No changes needed.
SMTP Server Options
One additional step is required for most installations. This step is a workaround for ISPs that block outgoing mail server communication on port 25.
- Choose Server Settings from lower left of the accounts window to reveal the SMTP Server Options window as below.
- Server port: Change the port setting from 25 to 587.

Testing
That's it. Test your Email setting by receiving and replying to an Email message from a friend.
